One of the podcasts I listen to on a regular basis was sponsored by Sunbasket, offering listeners $35 off their order (1/2 off). 3 meals - 2 servings ... free shipping = $5-6 per serving. I was sold, considering it looked gourmet and took the hassle out of buying a million ingredients in larger portions, leaving random extra things that have no purpose in my daily foods.
Sunbasket says:
they utilize seasonal organic ingredients and top-quality produce from the best farms
all produce is non-GMO, and all organic ingredients are clearly labeled on delivery
meats are responsiblly sourced to be humanely raised, antibiotic- and hormone-free meats & sustainable seafood
weekly options include: Paleo, Gluten-Free, Vegetarian, and Family
each week, you choose the recipes you like best from the options
I had never tried a meal delivery service before, so I was skeptical. Would the ingredients be fresh? Would my final product be comparable to the pictures? 30-40 mins to make - a myth?
I ordered Thursday night and received my meals the Tuesday after thanksgiving. I was very thankful to not have to “think” about grocery shopping while at home / driving back and forth across the state.
I chose the paleo plan:
1. Pork and eggplant stir-fry with rice noodles and Thai basil
2. Sesame crusted salmon with orange and roasted carrot salad
3. Beet and butternut squash hash with poached eggs and spiced greek yogurt

Rating: 8/10
Unique! Fun twist on Thai and nothing I ever would have thought to make on my own.
The sauce was not as bold as I has anticipated. I was expecting more flavor.. So we used up all the spices to add a kick.

Rating 10/10
I should probably state I’m a SUCKER for salmon. Seriously can’t get enough. This was my first time coating it and I will def be doing it again. The carrot side dish knocked my tastebuds outta the park. Crunchy carrots, refreshing mint, sweet citrus.. not to mention the salty zip of the sauce that left a pleasant after taste similar to soy ginger.
The meal appealed to all the textures and filled me up without stuffing me up. I ate the second portion the following day for lunch. Heated up, it tasted just as good!
Rating 9:10 My poached egg game probably needs practice... I make a meal similar to this at home quite often, except sweet potato rather than squash and I always add goat cheese. I wish they gave a little more kale because the portion was SUPER SMALL. The spicy greek yogurt was a fun, new twist to add a pop of flavor. Frankly, it was the main source of flavor.
Overall, would I order again? For full price, just because? Probably not. I’m a coupon crazy and cheapo. However, the convenience of coming home to meals in a time crunch would definitely make me consider, if I needed to have a presentable meal prepared without time to shop.
Have you tried Sunbasket or any other service? I would love for you to share your experience with me!
